  • What is asphalt?

Asphalt is a combination of stones and sand or recycled materials with liquid asphalt cement, a petroleum product. Various sizes of the combination of stones and sand or recycled materials are heated and then mixed in exact proportions with asphalt cement that has been liquefied at about 300 degrees. We deliver the still-hot mixture onto your driveway and is paved on top of a base or subgrade that was pre-prepared. The mixture cools and hardens minutes after paving and your driveway will be back to normal within a few days. Other names for asphalt are hot top mix, blacktop and macadam.

  • When can I allow cars back on my paved surface?

It will take about 90 days for the new asphalt surface to cure. The temperature plays a big role in driveway paving, and how fast your new pavement will cure. It would take longer to cure in hot weather, you should be able to drive on the surface after 2-4 days if you are careful. Although motorcycle and bicycle kickstands, high heels, boat trailers, and sharp objects will pierce through the new asphalt for some time while the asphalt is curing. You could spray water over the surface on those hot summer days to cool it down.

  • What is the average life of a driveway?

A driveway paving should last for 10-20 years under normal usage. Climate also plays a determining factor for the average life of a driveway apart from the wear and tear caused by humans.

  • Why do different textures of asphalt appear within the same paved surface?

Comprised of varying-sized stones, asphalt naturally exhibits a variation in surface texture, noticeable in different loads of asphalt and pavement surfaces. Asphalt surfaces that are 12' or more in width will have to be connected. Hand-worked asphalt with larger stones tend toward the surface and the asphalt with sand in its mixture settles down, creating a variation in the surface.

  • What is sealer?

Use sealcoat to extend the life and improve the aesthetics of the asphalt surface. With age, asphalt oxidizes and eventually becomes brittle. Such asphalt is also susceptible to erosion from rain, irrigation run-off and traffic patterns. Sealcoat prevents oxidation in asphalt and acts as a wearing course. Furthermore, sealcoat changes the look of dull-gray old asphalt to a vibrant jet-black surface.

  • When should sealer be applied?

Sealer can be applied six months to one year after a new installation, then every two to three years is recommended as maintenance. As your paving contractor, please call us with any other questions and concerns.

  • Can I seal my own driveway?

Yes, you can seal your own driveway but it is a labor-intensive project. As your paving contractor, we can help you with supplies and advice for sealing your driveway.

  • What will it cost to have a contractor seal it?

The cost of having a contractor seal your driveway depends on the size and scope of the job. Contact us to schedule a consultation and a FREE estimate.

  • How long should I stay off my newly sealed surface?

In most cases, a day is sufficient to dry your newly sealed driveway. It also depends on the outside temperature and if your driveway is in sun. The sealer appears brown when it’s applied and blackish-blue when dried.

  • What if it rains?

The driveway won’t be affected by rain if the sealer is dry.

  • Do I have to be at home the day my driveway is paved?

No, driveway paving requires just a quick face-to-face morning review of the work to be done. Please keep the garage door open and a hose available on the day of installation. Items like boats, cars, bikes, etc. should be removed from the work area prior to our arrival.

  • Do I need anything special the day of installation?

Please keep the garage door open and a hose available on the day of installation. Items like boats, cars, bikes, etc. should be removed from the work area prior to our arrival.

  • How long should I stay off a newly paved surface?

In case of a typical installation, you can take a walk on your driveway the same evening itself and drive within 48-72 hours. Each job is unique and can take more or less time to cure/harden. Our team will notify you once the job is completed.

  • My car left tire marks. Are these permanent?

Tire marks are caused when you turn your car's steering wheel while the car is stationary. If it is a hot day and the asphalt has not completely cured, the surface will get a circular blemish or even show a tire pattern. If this occurs, simply tapping the area with your foot or a flat object will often correct the mark. Over time, most of this will disappear but be cautious when turning on your new asphalt surface. If the marks don't go away, contact your local paving contractor.

  • What should I do to help prevent the edges of my driveway from cracking?

To prevent the edges from breaking, you should put topsoil up to the edges. The curb in the parking lot protects the edges of the drive. An unprotected edge of the driveway is sure to break if a vehicle goes over it. Topsoil also prevents erosion from taking place.

  • What is StreetPrint™, where can I get it and what does it cost?

StreetPrint is a system that imprints ordinary asphalt with patterns that mimic the shape of various stone patterns such as brick and slate. The asphalt can be colored to match your needs as soon as it gets imprinted. Contact or email us to know more about our services.
